REACH MS began its early childhood initiative with its 2016-2021 round of funding. The early childhood initiative is in positive behavioral supports and interventions (PBIS) like past and current REACH MS initiatives. The goal of this initiative is to provide PBIS supports and training to pre-k. REACH MS began an Early Childhood PBIS State Team in February 2017 that represents early childhood professionals and agencies throughout the state and provides input and feedback on the REACH MS early childhood initiative. The Pyramid Model has been chosen as the primary source of training and coaching as it aligns well with K-12 PBIS practices. The first early childhood cohort began in the 2017-2018 school year bringing two school districts and one early learning collaborative (state-funded pre-k) on board. These pre-k programs will receive technical assistance and training throughout the school year. REACH MS will also provide early childhood PBIS regional training at no cost for interested school district, early learning collaborative, Head Start, child care, and other pre-k programs. Limited requested early childhood PBIS training and technical assistance will also be provided.
