Supports for Students with Significant Disabilities
This one day training provides participants the opportunity to learn how to create an engaging learning environment for students with significant disabilities in which all students can access information. A brief overview of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) will be provided. Components discussed will include structuring the classroom, developing a daily schedule, implementing appropriate transitions, and creating a reinforcement and consequence system. Participants will also receive information on strategies to use to support students with sensory impairments. Please bring a copy of your daily schedule and your reinforcement and consequence system (if you have one).
Including Students with SCD in General Education – a Team Approach
This one day training provides participants with information on how to plan for and increase inclusive opportunities for students with significant disabilities. Strategies will be presented on how to include students with significant disabilities in school-wide PBIS, how to provide access to content and activities for all students, and ideas on how to make inclusion more successful for students with challenging behaviors. Scheduling and programming ideas for inclusion will also be shared. The roles of the general education teacher, special education teacher, and administrator will be examined. Opportunities for each of these individuals to collaborate with like-role participants across districts and with teams within districts will be provided. Foundational PBIS knowledge is highly recommended as this training will not cover general information about PBIS. This training is similar to training provided last year on this topic.
