UDL Guiding Principles Training

Face to Face: This training provides an overview of Universal Design for Learning and focuses on an introduction to the three principles of the UDL Guidelines: Engagement, Representation, and Action & Expression, the cognitive neuroscience and behavior theory that support UDL, how to read the UDL Guidelines, alignment of UDL Guidelines to the Teacher Growth Rubric, and creation of a universally designed classroom.

Online: This four-module training will provide an overview of Universal Design for Learning and will focus on an introduction to the three principles of the UDL Guidelines: Engagement, Representation, and Action & Expression. Subtopics will include the cognitive neuroscience and behavior theory that support UDL, how to read the UDL Guidelines, alignment of UDL Guidelines with the Teacher Growth Rubric, and creation of UDL Action Plans for use in the classroom for each of the 3 UDL Principles.

UDL Design Steps Training

Face to Face: This training provides the participants the opportunity to shape their understanding of the principles of UDL along the Access, Build and Internalize Tiers; how the three brain networks affect access to learning for students; and how to compose S.M.A.R.T goals. Participants will also design assessments that allow for learner expression and communication but retain rigor and high expectations.

Online: This four-module, online training will provide the participants the opportunity to shape their understanding of the principles of UDL along the Access, Build and Internalize Tiers. Participants will learn how the three brain networks affect access to learning for students. Participants will also be presented with opportunities to begin to recognize barriers to access that may restrict learning and how to design lessons that remove those barriers. In addition, participants will study how to plan effectively for all learners utilizing UDL guidelines to build learner capacity. Participants will also compose S.M.A.R.T goals and design assessments that allow for learner expression and communication but retain rigor and high expectations. Furthermore, participants will identify what makes an Expert Learner and will demonstrate an understanding of their role in addressing learner variability to develop Expert Learners. The online, no cost, four-module training will be self-paced and will utilize recordings and activities via Canvas. CEUs (0.6) and SEMIs (5) have been approved for this 6.5 hour training.

Schoolwide UDL Training

Face to Face: This two-day training will provide participants with key steps in the development of systems and practices that support School wide Universal Design for Learning (UDL). CAST’s four areas of focus, School Culture and Environment, Teaching and Learning, Leadership and Management, and Professional Learning, will be the foundational pieces of the professional learning. School teams will use the UDL School Implementation Self-Assessment throughout the training to self-evaluate and to begin creating action steps to address areas/systems not fully in place.
